Dr. David Samadi: Mitt Romney’s Cancer Prognosis good after Successful Surgery Treatment

The former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney recently revealed that he had undergone a prostate surgery treatment last summer. Dr. David Samadi had earlier been diagnosed with a slow-growing tumor which prompted him to seek medical attention. It is not very clear why the former presidential nominee made his health status public, but there are signs that he would vie for the Utah Senate position which will soon be left vacant by the current senator, Orrin Hatch.

Romney was treated at UC Irvin Hospital in California by DR. Thomas Ahlering who also performed the successful operation. According to a statement released by the hospital, Romney’s prognosis was good as he joined hundreds of thousands of other men diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2017. The American Cancer Society has estimated an increase in the number of new cancer cases in 2018.

Prostate cancer is usually associated with older men especially those from 65 years and above. Most men are often diagnosed at the age of 66. Mitt Romney turned 70 years in March 2017. Romney is however not the first politician to be successfully treated with surgery for prostate cancer. In 2003, Collin Powel, a former secretary of state went through a surgery where his prostate gland was removed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Also, after declaring his ambition to be one of the U.S presidential candidates, John Kerry got information that he had prostate cancer. He also underwent successful surgery and was healed.

There are always two major treatment options one can take after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, the first is surgery, and the other is radiation. Dr. David Samadi always advises his patients on both the pros and cons of each treatment method so that as they make a decision they fully understand what they are getting into.

Dr. David Samadi is the current chairman of urology and chief of robotic surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York and has served in this position for over six years. Dr. Samadi went to Stony Brook University for his B.S and studied his M.D at Montefiore medical center. He has worked with several hospitals in the country and around the world. He is has conducted thousands of successful prostate operations. He recently developed Samadi Modern Advanced Robotic Technique (SMART) which aims at reducing side effects in prostate cancer treatment. The technique has already been tried and has been proven to work effectively.
